Rose Garden

In 1991, members of the Shawnee Garden Club designed and built the beautiful Shanna Morrison Memorial Rose Garden, located in West Flanders Park, 55th and Nieman Road, Shawnee, Kansas 66203.

The club raised money through memorial donations from citizens and businesses throughout Shawnee. Club members planned and prepared all the beds. The club purchased and planted all the rose bushes. Throughout the growing season, members maintain the rose beds.

In 1992, an arbor was added to the rose garden through private and corporate donations. The arbor is for the enjoyment of all citizens and is available for private parties, weddings or receptions.  (Please do not pick the roses so they may remain for all to appreciate.)

West Flanders Park also contains a concrete-paved .5 mile walking trail, a children’s playground, and two picnic shelters.

Throughout the year, club members volunteer their time to maintain the roses. Let us know if you want to join in for one of the fun workdays when we help prune and uncover the roses for spring, fertilize the roses, and prepare them for winter. Regular help is needed for deadheading throughout the summer.

I walk by your BEAUITFUL garden at FLANDERS PARK and love what you have done with much effort and TLC!! I watched you plant it and care for it. i walked by today and saw the rainbow chard growing out of control and lots of herbs uncut… I LOVE swiss chard or rainbow chard and would want to cut some to eat. Is that illegal? If others see me doing that it would not be a good example.. but it is a delicious veggie. What would be best? It just cannot go to waste and I eat the old leaves too, I just enjoy that so much!
Thank you for all you do and for your garden design for kids and all to enjoy. What a piece of heaven!
