The Garden Club of Shawnee was founded in 1990 after a group of community-minded Shawnee gardeners responded to a newspaper advertisement placed by the City of Shawnee’s Beautification Committee.

Twenty people signed up to join at that first meeting. In June of 1990, they formed the club, and approved a slate of officers and a set of by-laws.

Today, Garden Club of Shawnee members continue in the spirit of our founding with these objectives:

• Promote general gardening cultural interests
• Beautify the community
• Increase awareness of environmental issues

Members fulfill these objectives through expanding and sharing their gardening knowledge at monthly club meetings, holding a bi-annual garden tour, and making community grants.
